Maud Junior Football Club

Maud: Fyfe, Whyte, Hale, Anderson, Lawson, Thomson, Mair, Ritchie, Grant, Duguid, Norris

Subs: Grant GK, Gill, Smart

Maud travelled to face Newmachar in a first round tie with only 13 outfield players due to a host of injuries. Maud started on the front foot and a Lawson header from a Hale corner went close. Norris played in Grant and his first time shot beat the keeper but also the post. Grant had another chance but fired it wide of the post. The first time the home side went up the park they took the lead when a Cruickshank ball split the Maud defence open and Binnie ran through and fired under keeper Fyfe. A quick corner from Hale to Norris and his floated ball in was met by Lawson but he headed wide. Norris played a square ball to Thomson whose drive was just the wrong side of the post with keeper Sorley beaten. A minute before half time Maud drew level when a Norris shot as deflected through a ruck of players and into the net

HT 1 - 1

Poor defending by Maud let Pirie a free run in on goal and it needed a vital save by keeper Fyfe and then cleared by Lawson. Mair did well on the right but his cross was far too hard for the strikers to get on the end of it.  Gill then replaced Anderson for Maud. Morrison wasted a good chance for the home side after a through ball split the away defence. A Duguid first time shot brought a fine save from Sorley in the home goals. Good work by Norris who fed in Mair who looked like he had to score until Sorley got a strong left hand to save. Substitute Smart saved the Maud blushes in the last minute when he drove down the right, and cut in and drilled his shot into the corner of the net. Maud will hope to have a few more players back before next week’s Semi Final

                              FT 1 - 2

This was a poor performance by Maud and will need to play a lot better next Sat 7 October when they travel to face Culter in the Grill Cup Semi Final 2pm ko.
