Maud faced Newburgh in a league match with both teams requiring points to make sure of |Super league football next year. Play ranged from end to end with neither creating any chances. Sargent was beginning to give the away side defence the run around. On the left he cut in but his shot was a poor one and didn’t trouble the keeper. From a hall corner Smart went close then at the other end Fyfe had to react quickly to prevent McBride getting on the end of a through ball. The home side went in front when a cross came in and Mark Simpson headed clear just as the keeper came to collect but the header only went as far as Cooper who headed in past the helpless keeper.

  HT 1 – 0

The second half started the same as the first half with few chances being created. A long ball forward by the visitor’s keeper was latched on to by McBride whose shot was brilliantly blocked.  except for a couple of half hit shots which he handled well   by Hall. Fyfe in the home goals did well punching clear when he was under a lot of pressure by the visiting strikers. Near the end of the game Maud should have put the game to bed but Bremner made a hash of the chance then a square ball to Sargent left him with just the keeper to beat he shot wide of the goals. Maud ran down the clock keeping the ball in the corner. The final whistle went with all 3 points going to Maud. This was a much better performance from Maud and deserved win for the home side
