Maud faced Montrose in a league match which was played on a blustery wind.  First chance was created by the home side when Smart rolled his marker but shot straight at McCormack in the away goals. Doan was played through on the Maud goals but made a hash of his shot and the chance was gone. A Montrose striker who looked like he was brought down by Fyfe but he was cautioned for a simulating a dive. Montrose though they had taken the lead, but it was ruled offside. The home side should have went in front when a quick corner from Fraser to Hall whose cross was turned goal wards by Smart but it hit the defender and landed in the goal keepers hands. Sergant was unlucky to see his shot hit the underside of the bar and out.

The second half started with Maud on the front foot and Sergant was unlucky when he latched onto a long ball forward but McCormack was out quick to block. A Fraser freekick from edge of the box was well saved by McCormack. Smart gave Maud the lead when a ball was played over the Montrose defence and he held of his marker and slotted past McCormack. The away keeper was in action saving twice from Crisp at the back post. Maud did double their lead when a Fraser corner was deflected into the net by a Montrose defender. Bremner fired in a drive from distance which had the away keeper sprawling across his goals. Lawson brought a fine save from the visitor’s keeper from a Norris corner. Another chance went begging when Hale couldn’t keep his header on target. Norris hit a fierce drive from 25 yards which just went the wrong side of the post.

Maud’s next game is on Tuesday 22 May in the Superleague at home against Dufftown 7.30pm ko and at home on Sat 26 May v Stonehaven in the Semi Final of the McLeman Cup 2pm ko
