Maud finally faced Montrose in the 1st rd of the McLeman Cup after the tie had been postponed 3 times due to the weather. The away side had two golden chances to take the lead, but Cruickshank wasted both firing high. Maud’s first chance brought the opening goal when a shot by Smart was blocked but it fell to Fraser who dispatched clinically. Fraser then returned provider setting up Smart to tap in from close to double their lead. It was soon 3 nil to the home side when a ball through the middle of the away defence Sargent latched on to and he calmly rounder the keeper and fire into the empty net. A poor clearance from Whyte fell to Cruickshank but he dragged his shot wide of the goals. Montrose did pull a goal back when Grieg was played in and he rounded the keeper to score. Just on half time Smart had a chance to net another but he took too long getting his shot away and Anderson got back to block.      HT 3 - 1

For the first 15 minutes of the second half play went from end to end with both sides cancelling each other out. Maud struck again when a long ball was brilliantly taken down by Smart who fed Sargent and his first time shot looped over McLeod in the away goal.  A Hall corner was driven along the six-yard box but there were no takers in the middle. Hall did well to clear off the line from a shot by Doan then Fyfe made a save at his near post from the same player. A Hall cross to the back post where Fraser rose high to head home number five. Substitute Hale made a mazy run on the right and his cut back to Fraser who dispatched his third and Maud’s sixth to end the scoring.     FT 6 – 1

Maud next fixture is on Saturday 14 April TBC
