Maud kicked off their league campaign with a visit to Ellon United. The home side went in front when a Thomson freekick went through a ruck of bodies and into the net. 10 minutes in and Ellon were gifted a second goal when Massie was gifted with an empty net after a mistake by Ritchie in the Maud goals. Maud battled back with a couple of corners which came to nothing. Maud started the comeback when Moir netted with a neat finish and he followed this up with a second after a scramble inside the 6-yard box fell to Moir who slotted home. Good move by Maud involving Thomson, joji with a first time pass left Moir one on one with Keeper Kitkton but shot wide. He made amends. Maud had Ellon on the back foot and Moir netted his hatrick curling the ball past Kirkton after good work by Joji.

HT 2 – 3

The second half started with Ellon pressing forward and a Massie shot from 25 yards sailed high. Ellon had 2 great chances denied by some fantastic defending by Crisp and then Stainton. With 20 minutes remaining the injured Joji had to be replaced by Duff and his first involvement was a volley from a Quantrill cross which Kirkton saved brilliantly. Ellon earned 2 corners in quick succession, the first headed over by Coutts then Crisp headed clear the second. Tait send in a dangerous freekick from wide right which Lowden cleared. With a spell of Ellon pressure was well dealt with by Maud defence.  Great fast break led by a ball from Stainton cleared as far as Moir who’s cross to the back post was met by 17 year Alex Quantrill to score. This was a fine performance led by the strong Maud defence and coming back from 2 down after 10 to win 4-2. Moir already shown he will score goals if he gets the right service.

Maud now travel to face Hall Russell United on Saturday 17 August in the McBookie.com Super league 2pm ko
