Ellon were first to show with a shot from Irvine but it was straight at Stephen in the away goal. Ellon were trying to take advantage of slight breeze but were over kicking from home keeper Reid and were wasted. Irvine did well to cut in from right and shot past Stephen but Lawson was on hand to clear. Maud earned a couple of corners in quick succession but were dealt with well by the Ellon defence. Massie got fed the ball on the edge of the box but he dragged his shot wide of the post. Maud best chance of the half fell to Hale who got in behind but shot into the side netting from a tight angle.
HT 0 – 0
Bain fed a ball to Anderson whose shot brought a fine save down low to his right by Stephen. Maud had 3 shots from 18 yards from Grant, Hale and Smart all blocked by the home defenders. Grant came closed with a header from an Anderson cross coming off the top of the bar. Grant then turned provider setting up Wilson and his shot was well saved by Reid diving low to his left to save. A dangerous cross by Hale was just too hard for the inrushing strikers. A simple ball into Craib who cut in and fired past the diving Stephen. Anderson sealed the points for the home side with a second Ellon goal in the last minute. This was a hard one for Maud to take who gave as good as they got but in the end they didn’t create enough chance and those Ellon did found the net.
Maud next game is on Saturday 9 September in the McBookine.com Superleague at home to Inverness City with a 2.00pm KO
