Grill League Cup Semi Final

1st October 2016

Maud: Fyfe, Whyte, Scully, Crisp, Lawson, Wilson, Ritchie, Smith, Downie, Falconer, Smart,

Maud had Culter as visitors with a place in the Grill League Cup final up for grabs and the home side started with a bang when Falconer headed on a long ball into the path of Smart who calmly slotted past Buchanhan in the Culter goals. Falconer went close with a header from a fine cross by Scully. From a Ritchie cross Falconer headed straight at Buchnahan. Horne did well to hold off Scully and get a shot on target but Fyfe saved easily. A Robertson pass back went unpunished as Downie slipped at the crucial moment. A quick break by Culter ended with a shot from Horne which didn't trouble the home keeper. Fyfe did well to hold a cross by McKechnie when under pressure by Anderson. Culter then were reduced to 10 men after a poor tackle on Whyte by Adam Wilson. Just on half time Lawson went close when his header from a Wilson corner came crashing back off the crossbar.

                    HT 1- 0

Maud started the second half on top and Buchanhan made a fine stop from a shot from Still. Maud doubled their lead on 53 minutes when Smith picked the ball up 20 yards from goal and his superb left foot strike rifled past the diving Buchanhan into the net. Anderson wasted a good chance for the visitors when a cross from the right found him unmarked at the back post but he couldn't keep his shot on target. Buchanhan made a brilliant save when a miss hit shot by Smith fell to Downie 8 yards out and his shot was well saved.  An excellent cross by Wilson along the six yard box missed everyone except Still who came sliding in at the back post to stab the ball home. Downie went close to adding a fourth from a Still cross. A rare attack from Culter finished with a Smyth shot going wide. Falconer should have scored but he shot straight at Buchanhan from 6 yards from a great cross by Downie. Last action of the match saw Buchanan tipping an effort from Still over the bar.

FT 3 – 0

This was an excellent performance from the home side and on another day could have scored a few more. Maud now meet Banks o Dee in the Final on Sunday 16 October with a venue to be decided.

Maud next fixture is on Saturday 8 October at home against Stonehaven in the Superleague with a 2pm ko
