Maud Junior Football Club

Maud start the game with the strong wind behind them however it was BODT who were creating the chances early on. Firstly, through Alexander’s cross which was headed clear by Lowden and then McInnes shot blocked by Sime, after good build up play by Rennie and Alexander. Again, Maud were continually under pressure but some resolute defending by Stainton, Lowden and Sime kept the score level. Maud first opportunity came in 20 mins when Mair, loan striker for the day, brought a good save from Stark at his left-hand post from 20 yards. In 23 mins the visitors took the lead when the Maud defence seemed to be looking for offsides, letting Alexander break on the right to cross for an easy finish for Burnett. With no linesman, Maud were chancing their luck with offsides. Burnett and Napier had shots on goals saved by Ritchie. In 40 mins Robertson of Maud was sent off after a late tackle on Jeffrey. Melville replaced the injured Wood just before half time. Mair again forced a save from Stark and McInnes missed an easy chance right on half time.

Second half started with BODT keeping the pressure on the Maud defence. Sime was booked on 48 mins for a hefty tackle on Rennie. BODT were continuing to dominate and barring some poor finishing by Alexander McInnes and Burnett would have easily extended their lead. BODT brought on Wozniak and Gordon but again both missed several very good opportunities to add to BODT goal tally. C Ritchie came to M Ritchie rescue with a good tackle in front of goals after the keeper missed a through by ball. At the other end, a Lowden header went just over the bar from a Melville corner. As Maud pushed forward to get the equaliser, BODT were getting more and more opportunities. During the last 15 mins Maud were penetrating the DOBT defence more and more without creating any clear-cut chances, particularly through the hard work of Mair, Melville and Thomson. Gordon and Rennie were booked for BODT. A day of missed chances for BODT and a fighting display from Maud.
