Maud welcomed Banks O Dee in a first round tie and the home side struck the opening goal when a shot by Smart bet the diving Shearer. Watt came close to levelling but his shot was saved by the legs of Fyfe. Duguid made it 2 nil to the home side with a curling effort from 25 yards leaving Shearer no chance.  Watt then wasted a glorious chance but saw his header go wide from 6 yards. The striker did pull a goal back when a corner was headed on at the near post and Watt reacted the quickest to nod past Fyfe. A Buchannan header was then brilliantly turned round the post by Fyfe in the home goal. Watt came close to levelling the match but his header came back off the post from a Winton cross.

                         HT 2 – 1

Into the second half and Buchannan had the ball in the Maud net only for it to be rule out for offside. Whyte made a timely block to prevent Winton getting his shot away inside the box. At the other end a Crisp header from a Wilson cross went straight into the keeper's hands. Fyfe made a fine save from a Watt shot but it came straight back in and a shot by Philipson was deflected past Fyfe by a Maud defender to level the game. A cross from Bruce was headed on by Smart but Shearer saved comfortably. With 7 minutes remaining Dee booked their place in the second round when Watt had a free header 6 yards out and the striker made no mistake with his header.

The home side put in a lot of effort into the game only to come up short in the latter minutes of the game. Failure to defend crosses once more proved costly.

Maud next fixture is on Saturday 4 February away against Banchory St Ternan in the McBookie.com Super League with a 2pm KO
