Dominos Pizza North Regional Cup 2nd Round
7th January 2017
Maud: Fyfe, Whyte, Sculley, Crisp, Lawson, Thomson, Wilson, Ritchie, Smart, Duguid, Smith
Subs: Simpson, Reid, Downie,
Maud welcomed Hermes in a second round tie and the home side took an early lead when Duguid was played through and he fired past the out coming Sweeney. Before the away side had settled a Maud corner was cleared only as far as Wilson whose first time bullet of a shot flew past the away keeper into the top corner to double the home side lead. At the other end Smith went close with a header from an Alexander corner. A Conner cross went right through the Maud defence and it needed a sharp reaction save from Fyfe in the home goal. A Macklin cross was headed back across goal by Smith but Crip was first to react to head clear. Hermes had a shout for a penalty waived aside as Smith went down inside the box. Duguid did well to get a shot on target but it went straight at Sweeney. The visitor's keeper made a fine save at the feet of Smith at the expense of a corner which Smith swung in and Lawson rose high to head goalwards which Sweeney made a brilliant save.
HT 2 – 0
Hermes started well pushing the home side back and they were awarded a free kick 20 yards out. Lee Smith fired it in but Fyfe saved well diving low to his right. A quick break by Wilson who drove down the right cutting inside the box and his cross was cut out by Campbell at the expense of a corner which came to nothing. A Smith shot was well held by the diving Sweeney. Maud scored a third after some good work by Smith on the left and his cross found Duguid who turned his marker and his shot found the top corner. Wilson ball to Duguid who rounded Sweeney and crossed to Smith whose shot found the side netting. Last action came from a Wilson shot which Fyfe saved comfortably.
This was a fine performance for the home side with the whole team contributing running out comfortable winners which was helped by the 2 early goals.
Maud next fixture is on Saturday 14 January against Hermes in the McBookie.com Super League with a 1.30pm KO
